At the Children's Advocacy Center, children and their families are helped to overcome the trauma of sexual abuse in a caring, safe, and child-focused environment using a team approach.

  • A unified, cohesive, and organized team approach is essential to the prevention and treatment of child abuse; the CAC is dedicated to delivering this to the children of Gaston County.
  •

Children have a physical and emotional need for a safe and nurturing family and community environment; at the CAC, victims are healed through intensive counseling and their families receive the support they need in this vulnerable time.
  • Child abusers/sexual offenders should be held accountable and not allowed to re-victimize; we work with law enforcement, the district attorney's office, Gaston Memorial Hospital, Child Protective Services, Gaston County Schools, and the Medical Examiner's office wherever appropriate to help in making sure that doesn't happen.
  • All of our professionals who work with victims of child abuse and their families are extremely knowledgeable and well-trained.
  • Public awareness and education are essential to the protection of our children and the prevention of child abuse.

What we do

When children come into the Children’s Advocacy Center, they have been victimized in some way whether it is sexual assault, molestation, or extreme physical abuse. The specialists at CAC interview the child, provide for the medical exam, and assist in the preparation of a strong case against the perpetrator; the program is all under one roof and the process is executed very quickly. In addition, the CAC provides  counselors and free specialized  therapy for the victim  the non-offending family members.
